Elisa Heiken is both the author and illustrator of this book. Elisa has taken formal graphic design courses, but is mostly self-taught. She worked for many years as a product designer for various web and mobile apps. Elisa created '123 Like a Swede' for her daugher who is part of a bilingual household; Elisa is American, and her partner is Swedish (from the Stockholm area).

Elisa lives with her family in San Francisco.

We speak "Swenglish" in our home now, a unique mix of English and Swedish. ~ Elisa Heiken

123 Like a Swede was inspired by Elisa Heiken's daughter, who is part of a bilingual household.
After conducting a challenging search for bilingual books that represented both languages spoken at home, Elisa took it upon herself to create the book she could not find.
