This exquisite design is by William Morris, an important figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement that was popular from between 1880-1920. His beautiful designs are popular the world over. Morris' belief in beautiful and functional objects in the home parallels a similar viewpoint shared with many Scandinavian designers. Additionally, Morris, as with many Scandinavians, was inspired by nature creating motifs with intricate detailing and flowing forms.
Strawberry Thief is from 1883 and is one of Morris's most iconic and beloved patterns. Morris, who often grew strawberries in his gardens, frequently saw his crops disappear to hungry birds. These stolen berries inspired him to create this beautiful pattern with birds, strawberries, and leaves.
