The summer book is Tove Jansson's most loved adult book. The story takes place on an island in the Gulf of Finland where Sophia spends the summer with her father and grandmother. At the center is the friendship between a very old woman and a very small girl, beautiful and intense just like a summer in the archipelago. The story, which has biographical elements, was published in 1972. With a newly written foreword by Monika Fagerholm.
