Candles are a big deal in Sweden year-round, but particularly in the darkness of winter where they can be found burning throughout the home to create a sense of light and mysigt (loosely a Swedish term for 'warm and pleasant').  As such, it is important that the candles being burned keep one's house clean ~ both by not dripping wax everywhere, and in keeping the air healthy.

  • As far as keeping the house clean, The Kanalljus Taper Candle has channels that divert excess wax - the best insurance against melting wax landing on your table or window sill.
  • As far as your health (and the planet's), the Kanalljus Taper Candle has received the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, which was established in 1989 for Nordic countries to  make it easy for consumers and professional buyers to choose "environmentally best goods".

To be Nordic Ecolabelled, there are strict requirements on how much soot particles a candle may emit when it is burned, that it must not contain substances that are harmful to the environment or otherwise dangerous to humans and animals, and meet requirements for quality and fire safety.

The Kanalljus Taper Candle is definitely our preferred candle at ASI!
